Decision Making ...

I’m thinking of either getting a faster processor now or
waiting 3-5 years to buy a new system all together. Currently, I have a Duron
650Mhz CPU and thinking of upgrading it as much as possible (my mainboard can
support 1.5Ghz+)

 Here are my
current system specs. :

WindowsME
AMD Duron 650Mhz CPU
Gigabyte 7ZM Mainboard
256M PC-133 Memory
TNT2 32M Video Card
52X CD-ROM
8x4x32 CD-RW
30 Hard Drive UDMA
SB Live 5.1 Dolby Digital

Although I’d like to get a
faster computer and more fancy stuff, my current computer system is doing well
at the moment. The decision I’d like to make is get a faster processor OR wait
3-5 years to get a new system all together.
I have heard in 4 years, Intel
expects to release processors 3-5ghz+. This is not to mention what AMD will come
up with.
I’d really appreciate your
input and suggestions on either to get a faster processor now or wait 3-5 years
for a new computer system altogether.
Thank-you.

Also, hopefully there will also be better Operating Systems
to choose form in the coming years.

Start you upgrade.

If you're in to good computer performance you'll need to upgrade. In 3-5 years you computer you have now will be a slow piece of junk.

in January I'm gonna upgrade my PC. I just built it last January.

Here's what I got:

800mhz PIII
256meg pc-333 ram
32meg nVidia Geforce 2 MXII
cd burner
56x cd
27 gig Harddrive

This is what I'm Going to do.
1+ ghz PIV
768 meg ram
64 or better geforce (Whatever it top then)
16 0r 20x butner
same cd rom
40 gig hardrive.

I like to have the ultimate PC so Waiting a year is too long for me.

You really can't go wrong by upgrading your CPU right now. 1.2ghz AMD's can be had right now for around $100. Just think what a nice backup computer you'll have when you buy your new one in a few years.

I don't know about you, but personally as a PC enthusiast, i can't live without upgrading. I have never had the same machine for more than 6 months! Have you considered overclocking your processor? I think you could push that Duron 650 of yours to about 800+. If you are really after speed and performance (assuming money is not a problem for you - sounds like it anyway!) then like me, you might wanna consider a Dual Processor mobo. This is what i've got:

2x Pentium3 @ 1Gigz each
768 Mb of RAM
IBM 75GXP 60 GIGZ Hdd at 7200rpm
IBM 60 GXP 41.2 GIGZ at 7200rpm (i need the space for web hosting)
Creative GeForce 2MMX
Sound Blaster Live 1024
Creative DVD-Rom
Creative CD-RW
Case: Tornado Extreme with mega cooling!

I bought most of these components from www.overclockers.co.uk You might wanna check it out especially the case.
I personally would'nt be bothered to wait 3-4 years because as one person correctly pointed out, your machine will be an antique by then.

Good luck
