Most of the time when i run my new game Black Hawk Down, when its loading a map it shuts down and says "Ddhelp has caused an error in (unknown)" and of course to reset if it continues. After that i cannot open the game again as it thinks my 3d card doesnt work. ie, cant do multi textureing. Radeon 9000, and its fairly new. I solved the problem temporarily when i foudn that i had failed to uninstall the drivers for the old card. The error returned, so i checked th edrivers of my current card, there were the original, and the updated so i deleted the old....again it was fixed but only temporary. I have also reinstalled Dx9.0a several times hopeing that will fix the problem. And have reinstalled the new drivers for my card as well as its control program. Still haveing the error. Reseting lots of times and still being unable to play my game has gotten old and frustrating. Any ideas?

Geezer--

My problem is a bit different from Ben's above, but it still has to do with the ddhelp.GDI.exe error message.

I have a Dell Dimension 4100 dinosaur (3 yrs. old) with Windows ME, 56k/128ram and was recently advised to install MSN8. Unfortunately, no one told me to disable Norton or that MSN8 was "incompatible" with ME, so all hell broke loose when I downloaded MSN8. I immediately UNinstalled it, then (with a Dell tech's help) uninstalled MSN6, then REinstalled MSN6. I immediately began receiving "ddhelp GDI.exe" error messages--BUT ONLY while I typing an email in MSN Hotmail, not while typing in Yahoo email. This error would then take me off line and force me to reboot.

Out of desperation, I reinstalled ME with the assistance of a Dell tech in India, then was told the next day that it was "a dirty installation" because my HP 3150 printer/fax was left hooked up to the modem. Whether because of removing MSN8, MSN6 or the reinstallation of ME, my printer driver was gone! I couldn't print documents from the computer!

Then, another Dell tech took me through a Font Driver Boot that lasted 3 hours. I had regrettably tossed the HP 3150 driver reinstallation CD last year, so I had to wait for another to be sent. That brought back my printer. However, the ddhelp GDI.exe error messages continued.

A few days ago, an indy tech suggested I needed to reinstall Macromedia Flash and that this might solve the problem. I downloaded Shockwave, and that seemed to make the error messages less frequent. But, they continued and do to today.

Then, last night, I searched on Google for Microsoft error messages and found that my "Run" has "DrWatson" built into it, so I set it up for the next error message and it just came a few minutes ago. I sent the report to Dr.Watson, and it told me it's a
"mmtask.tsk modul/multimedia background task support module 4.90.3000 problem".

Does this mean I can now get this repaired and if so, how? Must I break down and buy the full XP Home Edition version to totally rid myself of ME? I have been told that would not help my situation as XP is not compatible with my Dimension 4100 and would give me soundcard and other driver problems within a few weeks of installation.

I'd like to fix this problem and keep this old computer. Can the mmtask.tsk module be repaired?

Thanks!

levotb

I cant really help you much, the solution i was given by Geezer did not work for me. I can help you with one thing however. For any drivers that you need and no longer have just goto www.driverguide.com
Its free to sign up and it have every driver you could possibly need.
