Cursor won't work correctly online.

I have an older HP Pavilion XH136 that uses Windows ME. I cannot get the cursor to work correctly whenever I am online. For example, if I log onto a website that requires I click a username box to enter my name, I can't do it! However, it works fine for clicking on a link and it also works fine if I am offline. (I am on my desktop computer composing this because even though I was able to log onto this website I couldn't register because I was unable to get the cursor into the box!)
I don't know how significant this is but System Restore doesn't work right either. If I try to restore I get an Error: 29 Unspecified error. I also can't get Control Panel to display the icons to allow me to change settings. I can get to Control Panel but the screen is blank.

Dave Ratcliff, SWAG, sounds to me like you may be under attack by a nasty. Think I'd make that assumption and scan. Don't forget about restore. Critters can hide there. HTH. Ed in Texas.
