Comment: Hi, Yesterday I did something terrible. By accident, I deleted all the Creative folder containing files like ksuser.dll and stream.sys. I can't back-up or restore to an earlier point. My idea was to ask someone...who has windows me to send me his Creative folder. Can I simply add it in my Program Files or it's not that simple because the files he has will not work with my computer? Please help me out...

Reply: (edit)Did you go so far as to delete them from the recycle bin? If not, restore the files to their previous location from the bin. By "Creative" folder...are you talking about your soundcard?...try uninstalling/reinstalling it.

Reply: (edit)Yes, I actually deleted it from the recycle bin. Where do I get the install software from? I downloaded some drivers software from the internet, when I install it, it asks to restart and when it comes back to windows it tells me that ksuser.dll, stream.sys and swmidi.sys are missing (were located in Creative folder). Then they ask me to insert the Windows ME cdrom (which I don't have since it came with my comp) or to browse for them. That's why I thought it might be possible getting them from someone who has windows me. I actually got all his creative folder but before I overwrite, I want to make sure that there will not be any incompability between the files I used to have for my sound card (Creative Sound Blaster PCI WMD) and his files...for his sound card (SB Live! Wave Device WMD). I would like to know if dlls are the same for every comp or are diffrent for each comp. Any idea?

Reply: (edit)The installation files will be same for specific devices (sound cards in this example) on the same platform or operating system. Those sound cards must of course be the same model and the setup software must be the same build or version number. If you bought an OEM pc with no original Windows disk, just a recovery disk, there should be the appropriate program to reinstall the sound drivers and application on a backup disk supplied. Copying the folder from another machine will not work since it would be necessary for the setup program to be run in order to register the dynamic link libraries (DLL files) to the system and registry. Just having the directory of files there is not enough. In addition, using the wrong setup program or the wrong version of the DLL's will just cause you setup failures, application failures, and tons of errors, so not worth the hassle to even try it. I'd suggest you go to the Creative Labs website to see if they can supply the install program on the site. Hope this helps... Mark

Reply: (edit)Hi BulletTooth77. On my system - ksuser.dll - is located in -
Windows\System Folder
You can get a copy and and put in the Windows\System folder from here -
http://dll.yaroslavl.ru/index.php3?lng=&in_char=K
Stream.sys is located in 2 places -
Windows\System32\Drivers
and Windows\System\DirectX\Migrate It appears that Stream.sys is a DirectX component so maybe installing DirectX will reinstall that file.
Take care,
Linda
