creative audioPCI/NO SOUND!!!

...Im loosing my patience.I need to hear some music! I can hear no sounds or play mp3.I have a creative audio PCI [ES1371,ES1373](WDM) sound card or so it says and Windows ME.Do I have to download any drives? I called the guy who sold me the computer and he told me he had no problem with the sound.
However...I might have done smthg stupid....I installed office2000 and I think thats were I got the ME cause the guy had Windows 98!!! Does this make sense??? I have no idea about software and drives....I am learning the hard way... Please help

1. Go to Device Manager What does it say for Sound, Video and Game Controllers ? 2. Do you have a yellow speaker icon in the systray - that's the bar down next to the time.

Make sure it is set appropriately whether Digital or Analog. Should have some type of control panel for sound in Programs.

If you can't find any speaker icon on your system tray then probably your soundcard needs installation of its driver for it to work. Call the guy and ask for the driver cdrom or download driver from the net.
