Comment:
I have an old PC which is currently running only Windows Me, I would like to create a partition to run Linux.
What would be the best way to do this?
(I don't know what Linux distro I will be using yet. Any suggestions welcome)

Probably use any of the compatible partition manager utils to achieve it? Different folks have their own preferences for each util; and many seem to like BootITng, Ranesh is another; Acronis too?
I tend to discourage PM as it has had a few issues with XP for a few folks; and if you are going to go a current version of a util, perhaps wiser to get one that problem free for all current OS?

Ubuntu Linux, available free for download in ISO format or shipped to your door FREE has an excellent Guided Partitioning utility.
Place the Ubuntu CD in your CD-ROM drive and boot from it. It will then find the Windows FAT32 partition and give you the option to "squeeze" Windows into a portion of your drive's total space and will partition and format the remainder in order to install Linux.
Be sure to install Windows first THEN Linux as Windows will balk if it finds any file system other than FAT16/32 or NTFS.
Who gave you people access to a computer?
