Hi CrazyOne,
I quit trying to reload the os to my primary, so I loaded onto the new 160g hd. I want to partition this hd and the tricky part dumping all my programs from my old primary which was partitioned into 3 sectors (c,d,e) and using c, d, and e on the new one. I can dump the d and e easily by` using g,h, or i on the new one, the tricky one is the c drive to the c drive. Any ideas?

Thanks for your help in the past, if you have any suggestions, please post

frank

Hello Frank,

I'm a little confused, make that really confused here :-) sorry.....

Tell me if I understand correctly, what you've done. Also, what you want to do, ok.

You partitioned the new HDD, in two partitions. You then installed the OS, to the first (primary) partition on the new HDD. You then connected the old hard drive, and copied things as you said.

Now you want to copy the programs from the old hard drive, to the new one? That can't be what you mean. Like I said, it's confusing.

If you're saying, that you want to copy the complete/everything on old C, to the new C. You should of got the needed stuff (utilities/program), to do just that, when you got the new hard drive. If you didn't (OEM disk), go to the manufacturer's website and get what you need.

If you can't find it. Maybe I or someone can give you help in finding it.

Hope I didn't confuse you, with my ramblings.

CrazyOne
:-)

Hi CrazyOne,
What I was trying to say, I wanted to clone the new drive with the programs I had on my old hd. Since my old hd has a "c" drive and now my new hd has a "c", I can't duplicate the drive contents hd to hd. I would assign my new drive with letters I was not using on my old drive, so copying "d" and "e" should be no problem. Before I start transferring the programs, I would like to find it if it's possible to do it without any problems. These ms os's are wicked to work with as there is nothing guaranteed or easy working with them. In essence I want to clone my old main drive. The important features of my old drive, all the software has been updated, patched or upgraded. It was be a pain to do it manually.

I thank you for your follow-up and hope you can help me with some ideas,

thanks again,

frank

Hello Frank,

"I would like to find it if it's possible to do it without any problems"

In a perfect world, there would never be any problems. By that, I mean there is no guaranty that things will always work, as planned.

With that said, go to westerndigitals download site, (This one) and get the Data Lifeguard Tools. Use it, to do what you wish. Myself, I haven't used it So can't speak to it's operation. I'm sure there is documentation, on the wd site. By the way, did you get a CD with this new HDD? If you did, might already have it, and instructions for use.

Copy-Copy-Copy NOT move the files.

Hope that's what you seek, and good luck.

You're Welcome,
CrazyOne

p.s. Had to go back and look, for whom the HDD manufacturer was ;-)

Trying to take advantage, of every good weather day there is. So, I don't get back here, as often. Boat is done, in the slip, and ready to go. Now, if that weather would be/stay nice ;-)

I do hope so :-) Hope to get some sun, in all the right places. Hopefully, without so many peeping toms :-)~

And yes, do some fishing also.

Have a good one,
