i cannot use any virus protection, have tried 3 and they all crash the system when they have been running for 5 mins. I cannot access system info i get error message: winmgmt error cimwin32 dll winmgmt will now close, then the system crashes. I cannot use any cds dvds floppy disks, the system crashes. When i say crash the system dies as if the electric has gone, but all the lights stay on. The computer also comes on in the middle of the night. I cannot download anything because as soon as i start setup.exe the computer crashes. I hope someone can help, its driving me mad.

WWW.grisoft.com has a free anti-virus software that runs very well on ME. I have been using it for months with no problem and the other day, it caught a sobig before it got into my machine.

I've got the same problem. i've tried reformatting the hard drive and restoring windows with the disks supplied by the manufacturer. the machine locks while trying to run these disks. i originally thought that the ram was bad so i installed an additional 256 (added to 128) the machine seemed to work. the restore disk made it to about 50% complete and then the machine locked up again. can't get it to work for more than a minute or two. it seems to work better if unplugged and left for a while. can anyone give me a clue?

Gunner216,
sounds like a heat problem. Are your fans working okay? Can you add another fan?

LISA, you may find it's a hardware problem.
Remove the soundcard, modem, USB card & printer etc & try it. I had a modem freeze Windows even though it was not plugged into the telephone line. Installed everything back in, one at a time till the culprit showed it's self.

I'm having the exact same problems...it's driving me nuts.
The screen will start flickering, like dimming, really badly and then it just freezes up. I have to manually shut the computer off and then sometimes it will boot right back up..sometimes it won't even boot up.
I don't even begin to know what the problem is...
