hello,
i think a virus got my laptop and corrupted my system.ini file. i have succeeded in getting it partially back in use by editing the system.ini file, but im guessing that im still missing a lot of lines in the file (which i guess is why my display is stuck on 600x800 and why windows audio wont read cd's). attached is a copy of my system.ini file. should i replace the whole thing? (i dont have the original boot disk, etc. if thats needed). how can i edit this file to get back to normal? sorry this question might be sort of vague...
thanks,
joe

joe g,
You can replace the system.ini, manually, or by a registry restore, or a system restore.
To the manual way first. Start, Run, Type; sysbckup Press Enter. This will open a window, and in that window you will have files {rb001.cab, rb002.cab, ect.}. Right-click one of these, and click Explore. Now, in the right side you will see "system.ini". Extract one, to your desktop, open it and compare to the one you are using. Can even use that one, instead of the one you're using. Can even extract one from a restore point, if so inclinded. Nevermind that for now ;-)
Start, Run, Type; scanregw /restore Press Enter. Now choose a good/started registry backup, to restore. Do this, when you're ready to restart the computer. As it will have to, to restore the registry, and files.
". should i replace the whole thing?"
I would, to a know good one. Just an opinion
Didn't check for spelling or grammar, oh well :-) Ask for more help, on doing those, if needed.
