I have a corrupt file OLEAUT32.DLL I've got a new copy of it. But I can't install it because it says that Windows is using the old one. How do I stop Windows using it so I can install the new version
Many Thanks

Start >> RUN >> and type.

msconfig

Click -- Extract File

"Specify the system file you would like to restore."

you type.

OLEAUT32.DLL

Click Start.

In "Restore From."

you type.

C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\INSTALL

In "Save File In."

you type.

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM

Click Ok

It then asks if you want to back up the original file into the msconfig backup folder at C:\WINDOWS\MSconfig\Backups.

Click Ok

Then Ok again to exit msconfig and reboot.

OLEAUT32.DLL is in Win_14.cab file

If you use that repair, be aware that it also updates three other files which you may or may not want updating or repairing.

Either just overwrite OLEAUT32.DLL using the tool and saying no to the others or extract and get a direct replacement from your cabs.

I'm pretty certain I'm right in saying that MCRepair.exe gives exactly the same file version number as the one in Win_14.cab.

No doubt someone will chime in if that's not the case.
