If you're lucky, there will be a directory containing several dozen CABs and a couple dozen other files.

The simplest way to find them is:

attrib /s c:\*.cab

If they are there, copy the whole directory to a subdirectory on a CD.

OK this is what i found
C:\windows\options
Cabs
install
oobe
sbsi
enduser.oem
oemaudit.oem

In cabs there is attrib, applications, extentions, and windows cabinet files

Would it be too much to ask for a walk through. I like details.

No problem.

Navigate to your c:\windows\options\cabs folder and set 'folder options' to NOT hide anything, show extensions etc.

Then fire up your CD writer with a blank CDR.

Make a directory on the CD. winME will do.

Drag all the files to the winME directory and burn.

If you have an OEM installation, the copy probably won't work, since it is illegal to do it.

If you can get hold of a copy of Norton Ghost, you can copy the whole of your hard drive to one or more CD's or DVD's (if you have a DVD writer) and then load it onto your laptop. When you start the laptop for the first time, it will find the drivers for the new hardware (different graphics & sound cards etc.)

I have done the above and it worked OK but....
if you don't have two licenses for the operating system, it will be illegal. If you have a license for the original instalation on the lap top you will be legal.

I have reinstalled Windows over it's self by opening the set up file inside one of the .cab files (Response Number 3) but it asked me for the serial number. You will need to get this from the registry before you try Response Number 3.
