Hi, I'm 14 years old and this is the first time that I've posted a message on Computing.net, so excuse me, I'm a little confused.
Whenever I try to copy an image off of the internet and try and paste it into word or powerpoint nothing shows up except a blank highlighted square, where the image would be, but there is no image!
Also, when I insert my CD burned with all of my digital pictures on it, the CD drive revs for 15 sec. or so and spits it back out (no error message ever pops up). I know the drive itself works because it reads all other CD's, and I know the CD is fine because it works on all 3 of my other computers.
Could these two problems be related? One person suggested that I might need photo software on my computer, but I tried that w/o any success. What can I do? Thanks

ericnau, see if you can RIGHTCLICK the image you want and 'save picture as'. You can select where you want to save the image (My Pictures folder?) and then you can use the image as you wish.
HTH.
Ed in Texas.

After you copy the image from the internet:to check if the image is saved to your Clipboard go to Run / Type CLIPBRD.exe to open the clipboard. Here you should be able to see the saved image.
Save the image directly to a folder first [as explained above by Ed in Texas]You could create a sub folder named as MyImages or MyPhotos under My Documents.
Most probably you will have a image viewer installed along with WindowsME. Go to Start / Programs / Accessories / Imaging [This is a Kodak program provided for Microsoft]
In Imaging open File and browse to the folder where you saved the images. Select the images and you should be able to view them here.
In Word and Powerpoint menu you will find a Insert Image feature. Click on it and browse to the folder where you have saved the images. Select the image you want and insert to the page.
There are image editors which you will find useful for cropping and editing. If your images are too large in dimension and file size it could be a problem [especially if you have to post in on a webpage] A popular one free for use can be downloaded here http://www.irfanview.com/
About the CD drive problem I am not sure. Maybe someone else with similar experience can give a solution.

Hi again,
I tried right clicking and saving the image to my hard disk, the only two options of file types I had were art and bitmap, (I tried them both). When I tried to retrieve the image, no matter what I saved it as it showed up as a jpg. I clicked on the icon but no matter what program I tried opening it with, all of them said either "no preview can be displayed" or "the documents format is invalid or not supported." I tried running CLIPBRD.exe but then I got an error message saying "windows couldn't find it..."
Thanks again
-Eric

When you say no matter what program I tried to open the jpg with, it wouldn't open, what programs did you try? Have you an image editor installed on your PC. If not, download Irfan viewer (free) from www.irfanview.com and when you are installing it, associated jpg file type with it (it will give you a list and ask you what file types you want to associate). Then, that program will open any jpg and you can edit and manipulate the file.
Other thought - is all this happening with just one or two jpgs from one site or with all jpgs from all sites, because you could be coming up against some kind of corruption in the files themselves if it's just one site.
(And, welcome to computing.net - I've been here for many years and it's a terrific site. If your installation of Windows ME is ever giving you trouble, look at the homepage link on this response.)

Probably the files types are not included in Folder Options. Go to Start / Settings / Control Panel / Folder options / File Types
Scroll the list and see what image File types are included. Common image file type extensions are: .TIF , .BMP , .JPG , .JPEG , .GIF , .PNG , .PSD
If any of the above extensions are missing add it by clicking on the tab New. Type in the extension characters for example PNG and in Associated File type under Advanced select the image editor installed. [If several image editors are installed then choose which one you would want the file type to open in. For example .PSD is a Photoshop file extension so selecting Photoshop if it is installed otherwise select any other editor [like Irfanview] which also has that file type associated. [see Trev's explanation above]
You can also modify the file type association later in Folder Options / Change & Advanced tabs
To enable Clipboard viewer go to Start / Settings / Control Panel / Add-Remove / Windows setup / Systems tools / Details / [Check clipboard viewer and click OK]

Hi,
Unfortunatly, it's with almost all images I come across, however, a few have actually copied & pasted correctly, but I havn't figured out why very few do, and most don't. I tried all of your suggestions above and still I have the same problems. Do you think my only option may be restoring the computer?
Thanks
-Eric

I am just guessing maybe your system resources andor disk space are low.
Go to system tools and do a disk clean and scan disk all drives
Go to Start / Run / type in msconfig / click on Startup / Uncheck all entries not required except systray, scan registry, Load Power Profile (both), any anti-virus and firewall. Restart the system.[you will get a alert that sytem is starting in selective startup. check that so that it will not appear again when you restart]
Also remove all programs not used in Start menu and Programs menu : CLick on Start and see the list on top. Its ok to have Windows Update, IE and Dial-up etc. But if there are programs listed here that you dont normally use then right click on it and delete. Repeat the same in Programs Menu: Click on Start / Programs / Delete all programs you dont use often. [These can be opened from the installed folder in C:\Program Files or you can create shortcuts in a special folder on desktop]
defrag all drives [defrag in safemode: To start Windows Me in Safe mode, press and hold down the CTRL key while you restart your computer, and then choose Safe Mode on the Windows Me Startup menu.] After defrag restar the system.
Hope that can correct your problem with images. Even otherwise your system will run better now.
