When deleting cookies on my computer, I see that some of them have my name.
If I delete my "registered to" name in regedit, will this stop it, or should I look somewhere else? I'm using Windows Me, NAV 2002, and NPF 2002. thanks,

I always delete cookies with no ill-effect. I just don't want my name associated with them. Possible?

Yes, whatever name you log onto Windows with
will be the name of the cookie before the @ sign. If you simply do a Windows log on and don't log on with a user name... I believe it gives the name of the person who filled out the form & loaded the software.

Here's how to kill where MS stores your
name as the registered owner.

WARNING! Messing with the registry can stop your computer from starting & cause major problems.

START BUTTON>RUN>IN COMMAND BOX TYPE THE FOLLOWING: REGEDIT
Click Okay.

(Win 98/Me)

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SOFTWARE / Microsoft / Windows / CurrentVersion
From there you can edit the name in the Registered Owner key.

(Win200/NT Users go here instead: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SOFTWARE / Microsoft / Windows / Windows NT / Current Version)

Double click the key & take out your name: Type a period or a dash and click okay to save it. Done

Don't forget:

You can completely turn off acceptance of cookies.

This is a turn off to some who like the personalized Yahoo!/Hotmail type thing.
It kills that... you have to turn cookies on for that. Signing in to do your banking or whatever all requires cookies.

I turn cookie acceptance on and off when I want to. I like the control. In Internet Explorer 6 go to TOOLS>INTERNET OPTIONS>
PRIVACY TAB Click on ADVANCED
Click override auto cookie handling
Click BLOCK 1st party cookies
Click BLOCK 3rd party cookies

No COOKIES FORRRRRRR YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!

Now Delete all of them. TOOLS>INTERNET OPTIONS>GENERAL TAB
DELETE COOKIES

Now type in WEB BUGS at your next search engine stop. Read up on those.
