Comment:

I am having problems opening microsoft word documents (.doc) in microsoft works, which requires the documents be .wps or .txt.

How do I convert the .doc documents to a compatable format, or get works to read the .doc format?

Help!!

QuickFix from the technically challenged :)

You may be able to open the .doc files in wordpad.exe

You can then edit the .doc file from wordpad. Or once you get the text file open in wordpad you could copy/paste the text into notepad and save it as whatever.txt, this will remove any font formatting. Or paste the copied text into the works text editor. I remember works suite and having this same problem. I eventually gave up on works and started just using word. Now i only use wordpad. It opens much quicker and gives you the ability to create .doc files which can then be opened on a computer with word not to mention any computer containing wordpad.exe.

There might be some obscure piece of software out there that allows for the direct conversion of these wps to doc or doc to wps files. If you plan on moving these documents back and forth between the pc with word installed and the pc with works installed You might just start using wordpad.exe to create and edit the text files rather than go thru the conversion hassle.

GoodLuck
