The Control Panel Icons will not display on the screen. The panel window comes up and it says I have 29 items but it's blank otherwise. Same thing for trying to display what's in my C drive.
They will open under Safe Mode. I get no error messages.
I am using Windows ME on an AMDK6-2 at 500mz with 384 RAM.Thanks, Gary

Thank You for your reply. No I have not done the virus scan. The problems all started because I was trying to load Norton SystemWorks 2002 to get virus protection.
The program didn't load and in my attempts to uninstall I really must have messed things up.
None of my Help Support features will work. Restore won't run.
If you or any other advisors can assist I would greatly appreciate it.
Gary

Thank You. I loaded an older version of Norton System Works that I had been using before I installed ME. It ran fine and indicated no viruses. What would you suggesy next.
Gary O.

i have the same problem! please let me know if you are able to figure this out.
i used sys restore and norton went nuts, i tried to install/uninstall a few times until
i went to norton website and completely unistalled all of the symantec products.
i reinstalled norton antivirus, and that's when the icons in the control panel/C: drive dissapeared.
help!!
thank you

Hello William,
I totally uninstalled Norton Systemworks.
I got my icons back and everything else by doing a reinstall. So that's the only help I can offer you.To Noel, if you're reading this, thank you for your efforts in trying to resolve this problem. Perhaps William can use your help.
To the "Kid" thank you for your assistance also.
Gary O.

Thank you Gary,
actually this is what i did (and worked!).
i called Dell and they did not help much, they recommended re-installation. so, i remembered reading somewhere (in this?) board that most of the programs in winme use explorer to display things and such.
i upgraded IE (i was using ver. 5.5) and that did it. now i see all my icons and sys restore is back to normal. but i think that now i'm going to buy goBack sounds more reliable than sysrestore.
-William
