I have had a continual problem with my computer freezing and going to a blue screen when trying to name a newly created folder or file, when renaming a folder or file, or when trying to move any file or folder to another location, either by dragging, or cutting and pasting. I get a blue screen saying the system has become unstable or one saying the system is busy and I can either wait or reboot, etc. I have defragged, scandisked, and checked for viruses with Norton. Another very odd thing is it is almost like there are two complete systems in my one system (this was a previously used computer). When I boot up, the Win ME screen very quickly comes up twice, and when I sign off of my ISP, oftentimes it says, "goodbye" twice. Also, the wallpaper clicks off twice when I am shutting it down. What to do? Thanks, Anne

Agree with wwd, as usual :) but interested in your surmise that there might be two systems onboard. If the files from an installation of Windows are present on the C drive when a new installation of Windows has been completed (say in a different directory) it can sometimes cause confusion in the operation of the system and in the operation of utilities such as Norton. Check the directories to see whether you have two systems. Your main operating system should be in C:\Windows\System The installation cabs are also usually in C:\Windows\Options\Install (these are a copy of the system files which can be used for reinstalling and it's OK to have them there). But if there is then another copy of Windows somewhere else (any directories that look like Windowsold or Winbackup that some tech might have left), consider deleting them. Check too in add/remove programs in control panel to see whether there is an old system which could be uninstalled, such as Windows 98 and try uninstalling that. Norton Windoctor, which is part of the Utilities or Systemworks suites is a good diagnostic program for such difficulties. It will completely check your registry and sort out any Windows problems. It might be worth buying.
