Hi, I want to set a min/max for my swapfile.
I have 376MB RAM (384-8MB for sis530 videocard).
I already added CoservativeSwapfileUsage=1 to my system.ini (in msconfig).
Can somebody give me an idea on how much MB's I should use for my swapfile if I set min=max.
Does anybody know a decent website that has information about it?Thanks in advance
Johan

one common configuration is to set min and max to twice the amount of ram you have. in your case= 752 but others have different opinions about this

If you set min and max to equal the amount of ram, you wil see that you are running at a reasonable level.

Letting windows do it or setting it yourself makes little/no difference. At least that holds true on every machine I've ever tried it on.I'd let Windows do it personally.
Here is a good article on the subject.Long winded but good :)http://www.aumha.org/a/memmgmtz.htm

Go to www.google.com and type in something like this into the search box - best swap file size windowsME - and you will get a ton of sites to click on, opinions and recommendation to absorb, and then you will be able to make an educated decision.

I have manually set my swap size using one of the many formulas on the net but i havent noticed any difference.
Heres the link i got my info from. Look under the "more speed header"

The only advantage I've ever seen in manually setting the Swap File size (min and max the same) is that it never becomes fragmented.
The flip side is, if you select the values poorly, you can crash the system. As well as waste the space if it's specified overly large.
