okay I have a 500mhz computer on Win Me.

Okay here is what happened. Before my computer used to crash all the time..well computer & most of my programs such as Adobe golive, adobe photoshop..internet explorer..basically everything I use. Anyway I had hat Kernel32.dll probelm along with all these other things such as the Shell32.dll. Anyway so I copied down all the suggestions & handed them over to my sister. Anyway nothing seemed to work so we were thinking there might be something wronge with the hardware..basically c-drive. Anyway so we decided to do a clean sweep of the computer to start over..we formated both c & our slave D drive. So now we were about the reinstall windows again on a clean slate. My sister also reset the Bios since it was doing something funny (not detailed..sorry:() anyway now when we try to stick the boot disk in the computer so we can reinstall windows it keeps telling us that there are errors in the config.sys files..lines 22, 24, 26, & 28 I believe (I wrote this down but someone threw that piece of paper). Anyway so now we have this empty computer & can't install Windows. We make like 10 boot disks per computer. So anyway the ten we made don't work. Same error with the config.sys file. & also we were trying to see id the Micrsoft Me Original boot disk would work..unforunately that disk has been damaged 5 years ago due to a virsu being inside it & my computer auto deleting it. We called Miscrosoft to see if we could buy another copy but they told use we needed to just buy a whole new Win Me pack. Anyway if anyone could help please..If you need more details I can get my sister on this. I'm pretty comfortable with the computer but when it comes to all these config.sys & troubleshooting stuff I suck.

hello
im haveing a bit of truble following this.
but boot disks your refiring too are they the floppy disks?
you can goto www.bootdisk.com and down load free boot disk program just install on a floppy.
your windows cds cant get viruses.
they can get scratched. this can be fixed if you know a place that sells used cds some of those have equipment to remove scratches.
i just had this done to a xp pro cd. cost 5.00cn.
you can going bios and reset defaults.
to get to bios depending on computer mine i hold down f2 on start up some f10 some delete
try these out and post back more info like computer type hard drives ram ect.
and any other info that you left out or think might help
have a nice day

it's not my windows CD that got the virus. It is the original MS boot disk that got the virus. I will head on over to bootdisk.com thank you.

Computer type. Do you mean like what brand? We just baught a bare bone from a computer store & installed everything ourselves. This coputer has been running very well for the past few years just right now it's messing up.

ANyway I have two hard drives..both my Maxtor one is a 40gb & the slave is 14gb. RAM is at 128.

I will go try the boot disk & see what happens.

Okay I downloaded the bootdisk for Win ME at www.bootdisk.com & put it in the computer & started the computer. Anyway it does the regular stuff..telling you what hardware you have etc...but then after that table comes up that says like drive A:... Drive B:...it writes some other normal stuff but then stops & then a blinking line appears. This has happened also with the rest of my own boot disks. Some do this & others give me a config.sys error message. Any ideas?

More info..I don't know if this has anything to do with my problem..but sometimes my computer won't turn on. LIke the black screen will come up & that's about it..or it beeps but nothing happens..or even without any boot disk in A drive it will do what I just explained above..tells you all the info like normal & then nothing..just a blinking line.

Here are the error messages I got to begin with when I still has win Me on my system & some when reinstalling Win Me (when I could) Don't know if this will help..but I wrote them down:

cmdninst has caused an error in KERNEL32.dll

iexplore has caused an error in

iexplore has caused an error in SHELL32.dll

explorer has caused an error in MSHTML.dll

Error occurred while setting up c:/windows/system/initpki.dll

etrac32 caused error in extrac.exe Rundll32 caused an error in MSJAVA.DLL

Error loading c: windows/syste,/msjava.dll

A dynamic link library (DLL) initialiation routine failed

helpctr caused error in MSXML.dll

Boot up with that boot disk again, when there`s an A\>
with a blinking line, type C: press enter, then type- type config.sys | more The same way withall the spaces When you see your config.sys count down to 22 24 26 and 28. And write down what those lines say.

Im with wawadave, Im having a little trouble following this but if you formatted c: you shouldn't get iexplore errors etc. What is your boot sequence in the bios? if it isnt allready, Make sure the floppy drive is listed as 1st in the boot sequence, followed by your hard drive then cdrom

I got a boot this from this computer I made on right now. inserted in messsed up computer.

I couldn't get to A prompt at all..it would just have a blinking line.

Later: The computer went to the boot start up menu. I pressed #2..w/ cd-rom support.

Here is what it wrote up:

The following file is missing or corrupted: OAKCDROM.SYS There is an error in your CONFIG.SYS file on line 22

The following file is missing or corrupted: BTDOSM.SYS There is an error in your CONFIG.SYS file on line 23

The following file is missing or corrupted: BTCDROM.SYS There is an error in your CONFIG.SYS file on line 25

AIC - 6260/6360/6370 ASPI manager for DOS version 3.685 copyright 1990-1997 Adaptec, INC.

The following file is missing or corrupted: ASPI8DOS.SYS There is an error in your CONFIG.SYS file on line 27

ANyway one else want to put their two cents in?

I also heard you could rewrite the config.sys file?..anything in that? Like anyway to fix those lines 22, 23, 25 , 27

You have a bad boot disk. Do you have any new ones? Try downloading a startup disk onto a new or different floppy than you`ve been using. The only place you`ll find btdosm or btcdrom.sys is on your boot disk, so if its corrupt than your floppy is bad, so try again with cdrom support put your windows cd in,type setup and good luck.

Two questions:

1. Are you making all of these bootdisks on the same "other" computer? Can you boot to these bootdisks on the "other" computer? In other words.... is the computer you are making the bootdisks on corrupting the disks somehow (virus, bad floppy drive, etc...)?

2. Most of the files the floppy is having a problem with are cd rom drivers... After it gives you the errors, what happens? Can you get to an a:\> prompt or does the system hang? What kind of cd rom drive do you have in this computer?

2:after it gives me the errors it just has a blinking line..I can't get to a:> prompt..I don't think the computer hangs..but I can't tell...there is just a blinking line. My cd-rom...it's just a gerneric 32 speed.

Someone already asked which boot disk did you use to format? And what did your sister do in the bios? The boot disk you used to format works. use that to boot with.

I admit i skipped past most of the replies :)

You dont need to download a boot disk installer if you have access to a virus free windows me/98se PC. You can creat one.
After creating a boot disk on a virus free machine move the little lock tab over so the virus cant infect it.
