Conexant Modem R6793-17

I am having problems with this modem and Win ME. When I switch the PC on and try to connect to the internet, the PC seems to hang. Then the modem retries and I get a connection. I have reinstalled the modem. Is there a qick fix? Who can help?

hello you might want to try these things. 1 get ad-ware and run it. 2. goto start run,type msconfig ,and remove and uneeded thing from the start up tab.to fined out what you can and cannot remove or what you should not every have in there do a google search for pacsportal and read list. 3.try doing this: http://computing.net/windowsme/wwwboard/forum/18106.html 4.have a look in device manager and do you see any yellow ? in there.if so look in properties for the modem in there. see why its got problem. have a nice day
