To get rid of this problem i deleted my windows and installed it from scratch.. For two days it worked fine but then the problem came back.....
please help me with this..
bye

Not necissarily a modem problem, I have had the same, both with a Conexant 56K modem (not the HFC one) and another non-Conexant modem, and with me it was probably an ISP problem since it occured mostly on peak-hours. Sometimes it started to work when I reconnected, moslty it didn't, but now I got DSL, so my problem days are over :)
You could ask your ISP if they know anything, or ask people with the same ISP if they have the same problem.

I had the exact same problem when I installed an HSF Conextant. I wish I would have known there CAN be problems with them, before I put the piece of junk into my puter. The cute thing is that after it stopped getting throughput, I couldn't use any other modem and get throughput from them either. After reinstalling windows, I installed an external and haven't had a single problem since. My recommendation. Throw that thing in the trash and get a good hardware modem instead.

I, too, got rid of my HSF Conexent. Put in a Creative Labs Modem Blaster V92. Haven't had a problem since.

before you throw away your HFC modem, visit Richard Gamberg's very helpfull site:
http://modemsite.com

Try a test for me... this test will determine where the problem lies.
Connect to your ISP.
Go to start>>run>>command.
Click ok.At the DOS prompt type:
Ping 209.90.0.4
In the results there will be a line that says Packets Sent and Packets Received.
Post the results of that test here.
Now type:
ping sky.net
Again look at packets sent and packets received.
If you get no packets sent or an "Unknown Host" error message when you ping sky.net, it is very likely you just need to do the "Winsock fix".
Post the results and I will try to help.
This is a very common issue, especially if you are an AOL user or you have new.net or savenow installed.

hi newgrl
here are the results
Pinging 209.90.0.4 result were
Packets sent=4 packets recieved = 4
The result was same when i pinged sky.net
Packets sent=4 packets recieved = 4...

I have the same modem and it works great in Windows ME but I cannot get it to work in Windows 2000(I have a dual boot machine).

Ok... so TCP/IP is working... and getting out of the box.
Take a look at:
control panel>>internet options>>connections tab
Click the LAN settings button. Is anything checked there?
If it is, uncheck it and try the internet again.
I am assuming here that you are getting Page Cannot Be Displayed when you try to browse the internet with internet explorer?
