I recently encountered a strange, but I'm sure common problem. My system will not turn on after I repeatly push the power button. I,m using a gateway computer that is 500 Mhz, and the operating system is Windows ME. Athlon K6. I believe it could be the power supply, but I may be wrong. Please anybody with some info could you please help.

Try unplugging power cord for an hour or so. His then will bootup & work, until he reboots again...

hello try swaping a power supply from a knowen good working system. to the second poster is your fan working? power supply clean of dust the fact it works after being unpluged and aloud to cool off tells me its heat problem. have a nice day
when you replace a gateway power supply with a generic one, you might need to add a new cpu cooler, if the power supply fan doubles as a cpu cooler-with the big green heatsink. at least the one i repaired was that way.

Summary: what do you mean by it won't turn on? You mean you hit the on button and nothing happens? Start with making sure the unit is plugged in and the power supply, if it has a on/off switch, is turned on....
