Comment: Hi, Friend on mine was having problems with thier computer, freezing, taking forever to open, wouldn't read disks, and so forth. She desided that she wanted to get online for the first time. So I told her she should recover the machine first and start clean. So I went there to do that but for some reason she doesn't have drivers for her CD-Rom or CD/RW anymore, I tried to reinstall but there was nothing showing. Brought the compter home to hook it up to internet and maybe go find the drivers but now the computer is dead won't start at all, no power? Her fan I think was over heating at one time, could that Have caused the problem and what would make it just die like that? Any help would be a blessing. Thanks in advance!

Reply: (edit)ladybe, when you turn the machine on, is there any sign of life? Fan whirring, disk spinning, etc.? Heat is a big enemy of anything electronic and if nothing seems to start, it would be a good guess that something got too hot and went South. Could be that the machine needs a visit to the hospital if it is completely dead. HTH. Ed in Texas.

Reply: (edit)Ed in Texas, Quite right about heat being NG for elex. ladybe, But before leaving for the hospital, with the power UNPLUGGED, open the case and reseat all cables and cards. While tou're in there, clean out the dust, especially from CPU fan and heatsink. If no better after cleaning, disconnect power again and disconnect all drives. Try again. If still no joy, no beeps, no POST, it's almost time for the hospital. M2

Reply: (edit)Hi, thanks for the information. Will go and try that today. But I'm not that good with computers and I'm a little worried about opening the back up with all the static in me lol. But will give it a try. Thanks again for the help.
