04-02-01 Hello, If there is anybody out there that can help me, please e-mail me at lokalstation@yahoo.com. Okay, I recently purchased a SONY desktop pc, model # PCV-RX360DS and it runs on ME. When I try to shut it down the screen just goes black and there's this little white line that keeps blinking. The power indicator doesn't turn off. However, I've observed that when it's system resources is 90% or higher, it seems to shut down. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you downloaded the critical update packages and the shutdown patch from Windows update? Put a Shutdown and restart shortcut on your Desktop and try it out. Right click on the desktop and select new > shortcut and paste this in the command line for shutdown:C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL32.exe USER,EXITWINDOWS make another shortcut for restart and use: C:\WINDOWS\RUNDLL.exe shell32.dll,SHExitWindowsEx 2 Worked great for me. Try removing sounds also on your shutdown , if you have a corrupted sound file it can cause the system to freeze up and not shut down .

I had the same problem. I could restart the PC, but it wouldn't power off on shut down. The screen would blank and a cursor would keep flashing in the upper left corner. However, if I waited long enough, say 2-3 minutes, I received a blue screen error 0D:0028:C0009E84. The problem wound up being the piece of junk Creative Ensoniq 1373 soundcard. I replaced it and everything worked fine
Summary: When I shut down the computer through the start button, it won't shut down completely all the time. It gives me a blank screen, and then need to hold power button for 6 secs to completely shut it down...
