Help...not sure of what to do. My son's computer froze while connected to internet. He shut it off, and when he tried to turn back on, it would boot up to a black screen with the choice of Normal, Safe, and can't remember third choice. No matter which one you chose, the computer would immediately cut off. Thinking he had a virus on the computer, I reformatted the hard drive and did a system recovery. Now when I try to boot I get the Windows Me screen twice and then it goes to a blue screen that flickers and scrolls broken lines with a flicking window in the background. I can boot to safe mode with no problem. The computer has 2 system recovery disc and 1 application recovery disc. The system recovery procedure never asked me to insert the application recovery disc. Could this be the problem? Help.....

Ok, get your windows ME boot floopy(if you have one!)use that support. Or if you have another computer diconnect your 2nd drive and replace it with the crashed 1. THe drive you took from the crashed computer will show up as your 2nd drive erase it... Then copy all your files on your 1st drive then, paste them onto the crased one. This will take care of any missing files that might be screwing will anything else. (Done this myself. peace out!)

Sounds like a possible video or other driver issue. If it boots into SAFE mode, which only loads minimal drivers and software then this is your clue.Boot into SAFE mode and then click on;
Start
Run
type in "msconfig" (no quotes) and hit OK
Click on the tab marked "Startup".
UN-check everything in there EXCEPT;
systray
explorer
Click "APPLY" and then restart when prompted.
If it now boots into normal mode then it is somthing loading at start-up. Add items in the list back ONE AT A TIME WHILE REBOOTING BETWEEN EACH CHANGE until you find the culprit.Jimi_l
