Hi,
What causes computer to slow down? Yesterday all of a sudden getting online seemed slower. My cursor was acting strange.I would restart and for a short time it would be o.k.....
Any suggestions on what I should be doing?
Thanks!

Downloads, new software???? If that's not the case than run disk defrag. If you have Norton Utilities then do a system check, windows check, optimization and at the end scan disk. That should do. Cleaning internet build up helps as well and I would advise to do it on regular bases. Good luck:)

Many programs don't release RAM when exited, and subsequent programs have to make do with less memory on which to run. There's a lot of software on the net for such a problem, such as RAMIdle, which defrags memory and prevents one from getting notification of "system resources low".

I recently came across two articles with information about things that can slow your computer down.
*** One person had 37,000 files (duh—that’s more than half a gb!) in his C:\Windows\Temporary Internet Files folder, which, while he was on the internet, caused his back button to frequently result in a “page expired” message. Also, when he clicked on “View Source” nothing would happen. The solution was to delete those files. Here’s how: in Internet Explorer, click on Tools/Internet Options, and on the General Tab, in the Temporary Internet Files section, click on Delete Files, and click on OK. ¶ But it’s even better to keep them from being stored there in the first place. In Internet Explorer, click on Tools/Internet Options and on the Advanced tab check the box (if it isn’t already checked) next to “Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is closed,” click on Apply and OK. nb: If you go to the actual folder and delete all the files there instead, you will also delete cookies, which contain your passwords for sites that require you to sign in. (Besides cookies, there are “spyware” applets there as well. [Spyware reports your surfing habits back to websites.] That’s why I delete everything in that folder. But I have to keep track of all my ids and passwords, and enter them every time I go to a site that requires them, something you may not be willing to do.)
*** In WinME, there may be thousands of 0 byte OEM*.inf files which can cause the computer to hang during setup, updates, or adding hardware— or just slow it down. Those files (zero byte only!) must be deleted. If you need info on how, ask.
