Comment:

Recently my girlfriend's computer has started doing something even I cannot fix :-)

System:
AMD K6-2-450Mhz
128Mb PC 133 Ram
Running Windows ME

Basically what happens is the computer is turned on, I get the initial screen just fine, it counts the CPU clock and as well counts RAM (counts correct amount). From there, I have the option to enter the BIOS.
After that screen, normally the screen would be cleared and a big white box would popup, giving a lot of general information regarding the computer setup, IDE info, etc etc... well I don't get that. The computer simply shuts off at that point. So I believe it is hardware related, but where should I start ?? Power supply gone ?? :-)
I'm lost & need to impress my girlfriends dad... any insight, or assistance is greatly appreciated. you can reach me at

can't disable screensavers, windows doesn't even get close to loading.

Restored defaults in BIOS already..

I think you may be right on the heat issue,
'cause last time (the first time) I had my GFs computer apart, I noticed the Heatsink/Fan on the chip wasn't plugged in AT ALL !! maybe the chip finally gave out.. they where running it with no chip cooling for I believe about 1 year.

Thanks guys, keep 'em coming
