Computer shuts down at startup?!!?!

Hello, When I boot my computer, It goes through the boot phase, then after the winME intro screen pops up, the computer shuts down. Whenever I choose safemode, it starts up fine. Any similar problems or suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated. JP

Any problems in device manager? You can use mscnofig as a troubleshooting tool to disable programs that are starting up. Maybe one of the programs is causing the problem.

Hi there. Do you have a zipdrive in your machine? If so, is there a disk in it at the time you start WindowsME? If there is, then eject the disk.
This is only one of a number of possible solutions. My wife has the same problem with her pc, but as soon as she ejects the zip disk, it boots up fine.

post above; same applies for floppy and cdrom drives as well.
if you have put in extra ram check if it is seated properly.
