Praveen,

How old is this computer? Did you always have to push the power button, to turn off, or did it shut down after the splash screen, by itself? Are you familiar with your BIOS settings, and if so, have you changed anything recently? {ACPI} Have you installed any new hardware?

Power off system and unplug the AC line from the wall for the system, monitor and printer. Then let it set over night.

Then first push and release the power on button several times. Nothing should happen because the power is still unplugged. Plug in each of the AC lines, doing the system unit AC line last. Power up the system and let it boot. Then try doing a normal ShutDown.

If that does not fix the problem, insert a bootable diskette into the system and shutdown so that it tries to boot from the diskette. Then manually shut the system down again and after removing the diskette, repeat the procedure of unplugging the AC power over night.

If this does not fix the problem, check in the BIOS CMOS Setup of the system board for any state after power failure and change it to OFF.

If all of the above does not fix your problem, then either the system board or possibly the power supply is bad and will have to be replaced.
