I am getting frustrated with this and I am not sure what else to do but I just recently bought a new bruner for my pc and it's not picking it up. I have tried enabling the IDE controllers but still nothing. I have power to the driver and I have tried changing the ribbon so I can't think of anything else I can try.....any suggestion

Daniel, dumb thought, but... Have you rebooted? Windows detects hardware changes during the boot-up process and if for some reason it hasn't properly detected something, all manner of strange things can happen.

Have you tried booting the system with a Windows ME startup diskette to see if the DOS mode drivers can detect the IDE CD-Rom drive and assign a drive letter to it.
If the DOS mode drivers do not detect the drive and assign a drive letter, it is a hardware problem of some sort. New drives can be bad or not working.

I had the same problem with my fiance's parents pc. They anted to get a burner and Isaid I would install it for them. We went and pick one up and I put it in with no trouble, install cd seemed to go off without a hitch. After install however ME showed the burner as just a cd-rom. I set the jumpers in master and cable select but nothing changed. Figuring I had a fault drive I returned it and got a Memorex cd/r/rw and tried to install that only to have the same results. What does it take to get ME to recognize a cd burner? I'm not very familiar with WinMe. I did this a while ago so I can't recall if I went to the Memorex site to look up drivers or not;I think I did. All I remember is that I got real frustrated and looked like a major idiot in front of my fiance's parents. Anyone got some input into this dilema? I'd really like to get it up and running for them.
