I have purchased a Creative NX web cam and have installed the software. I then plugged in the camera but the computer has not detected it. Also there is no imaging device icon in my device manager. The instructions that came with the camera are vague. They only say that Windows will automatically detect the camera. I cannot find any troubleshooting suggestions in their software.

I got two questions right away: Does the box or instructions say your webcam is compatible with Windows ME? Secondly, is your webcam model # PD1110? After you installed your software did you then shut down your computer, and then while your computer is shut down plug in your webcam, and then start your computer back up? Try that exact sequence if you haven't already. If that doesn't work have you tried to install your webcam via "Control Panel" and then click on "Scanners and Cameras"? If none of these work, please get back to us and maybe someone else on this forum has some better advice.

jazzcole, SWAG, my thought is driver. Windows will detect something new during the boot up process, but if the driver isn't there, it can't do anything with it. Be sure the driver is available when Windows wants it. You can probably find the proper one on the manufacturer's website or here.

Thanks both of you. The cam is supposed to be compatible with ME. And yes, that does appear to be the model #. I did not do that exact sequence. Should i remove the programs and start over?

jazzcole, yes I would remove any webcam software and start from scratch. I have read the "install" instructions for your Creative WebCam NX - Model Number PD1110. The reason you didn't see your computer detect anything AFTER you thought you installed your software is because you probably did not restart your computer immediately afterward. You may have started the process of installing the software/hardware BUT then you MUST restart your computer AFTER installing the software so as THEN the computer can begin to process the information relating to the software. If you don't restart your computer AFTER installing your SOFTWARE your computer isn't going to detect/recognize anything because it's the "RESTARTING" of your computer that allows your computer to start processing the software information of which you initially fed into it! Then AFTER(AFTER) all your SOFTWARE is installed THEN shutdown your computer and while shutdown plug in your webcam. Then start your computer up again and it should detect new hardware. If you run into any problems you can make reference to the instructions at the very outset of this posting. Don't forget to close all your programs on your toolbar BEFORE installing your software to help prevent software/hardware conflicts. Hope this helps and good luck. Let me know how it turns out for you. Good luck.

Well, i tried all your advice and i'm still coming up with nothing. I was prompted to remove the software cd before restarting, was that correct? I'm game to try installing the hardware using the control panel but it's not clear to me how that's done. Does anyone have any other ideas? How do i know that the drivers are in place? Should there be an indication on start up that new drivers are there? I'm very sad - i want my cam to work :(
