I have a celeron667, 128 ram with windows me. I keep getting short freezes of about ten seconds where everything just stops and occasionly I get total freezes where I have to shut down the whole system and restart it again. I've tried going into msconfig and stopping alot of the programs running in the background but this still doesn't work can someone help me.

Could be alot of things. Virus software, utility software running in the background. could be CPU overheating, could be a bad stick of RAM. Need more details, if you have them.....

that sounds real messed up, even if you go into msconfig and turn off alot of the settings. may be hardware probs?

Sounds exactly like a problem I had a few weeks ago. Read below for details on how to cure it...

I use Win ME with an Asus A7V, Athlon 750, 125Mb ram.
The system used to freeze virtually every day, in particular on the Internet when scrolling pages. I could move the mouse cursor but nothing else forcing a shut down and re-boot.
It has now been fixed... How?

1. Update (flash) your bios
2. Also consider installing new chipset drivers
and visual basic files as below...
Windows Me freezes
Try http://www.via.com.tw/drivers/
Via Chipset drivers on motherboard may need updating.

Try also installing up to date Dlls from
http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/vbrun6.html
(Visual Basic 6 SP4 Runtime library (vb6 dlls)

Good luck
