After installing Norton Personal Firewall, my computer freezes on startup. I must reboot then it works okay. I have to do this everytime I initially start the computer up. When I uninstall the Firewall the computer works fine. I am running Windows ME, with all the latest updates loaded. It is a Athlon 1.2 GHZ, with 512 MB of memory and 40GB hard Drive.I have cable Modem through a USB port connection. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME OUT!!!

Norton Personal Firewall works pretty well once you learn its kinks (though I agree, it is hard to beat free software). I would do as Redpepper suggests, remove Norton from the autostartup list in msconfig. Then, create a shortcut in your startup folder in the start menu that looks more or less like this:

"D:\Program\Norton Personal Firewall\IAMAPP.exe" /load

By removing it from msconfig, you ensure that Windows ME can startup without any interference. Then, once this is complete, Windows starts anything that is in the startup folder.

Hope this helps.

Chip

I use Norton products but I prefer Tiny Personal Firewall, like Donald.
