got a dell that keeps not responding, explorer keeps freezing, when i cut it on it comes up fine and looks fine but then i try to click on anything and it freezes and explorer stops responding, and says "server busy" and i have to do a manual reboot. i have ran spyware and antivirus and found nothing. what else could it be? if i decided to do a restore from a previous point will it save the documents in between?

It should only set the system back. However, making a backup is always a very good idea before using that utility

it won't restore to a previous date. it just sits there, finally i have to ctl+alt+del and end the task, you think upgrading to xp would fix any problems, not starting from scratch just upgrading.

Up grading will just carry many of the problems with it. You need to clean it up and fix it or do a clean install.

"server busy" sounds suspect. More like you mean click on Internet Explorer and it hangs, not Explorer. That sounds more like a browser hijack of the system.

Do some more extensive clean up and checking. Try working through page and running DELINDEX.bat
