I have C Drive 17 D Drive 3 toal of 20 GB HD, C has operating system w98se, D has the Restore Image for the Compaq orig store bought computer. Can I use Drive Image & Partition Magic to partition C into 2, so that I can install Winme on one and leave the w98se as is now..Thanks for your input I would just do a clean install on C with winme but afraid it will mess up the D Image of orig.

I personally don't have much advice, but I've been trying to do the same thing and here's what I've learned so far:

Microsoft says you can't dual boot 95,98,98SE, and ME because they share the same Io.sys, MSDOS.sys, and Command.com files. But you can put them on seperate drives. They explain it better here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q289283 with links on how to partition w/fdisk and some stuff on dual booting.

I've scoured the net, and found very little on this except to dual NT or 2K. You might try a page called Dave's world o' windows, but I don't have a link. If you find out how to do this please drop me a line, I would like to do the same.

Just a word of caution, if you mess with the partitions with anything other than your recovery disk, your recovery disk (Compaq)will not work any more(voice of experience)
In response to your question is Yes you can if you have a boot loader such as bootmagic Or system commander wich will allow you to install a secondary operating system.
A good freeware boot manager is XOSL

Just to add to what Len just posted. If you remove the Compaq partition you can't use F10 to get into the BIOS setup program because the setup program is stored in the Compaq partition.

Just to let people know, Compaq stopped putting the bios on the partition it is on the motherboard & chip since mid 1999, if you have a compaq go to there site and put your model number in and find out, mine is 7470 and Bios is on Motherboard and Chip, I have fully formatted my drive and have no Compaq stuff on it and did clean install of Windows Me (of course I have Win Me Upgrade & Windows 98se upgrades (retail) versions)
