I tried to reformat my compaq presario 5005cl with the recovery cd it came with, but when i choose the factory restore option in dos the computer go to a blue screen and the recovery cd ejected from the dvd rom drive then the screens says Please take out all the cds and diskette from you computer. Please shut down your computer. I shut the computer down turn it back on nothing changed. the first time I used the recovery cd it works but not it doesn't. plz help!!

yea also one thing i called them for help and the guy says i need to get the quickrestore cd!! what does the quickrestore cd does??

The Quick Restore CD puts your Compaq to
status of when you bought it. That means it
will FORMAT your HARD DRIVE, and put back
all those LOVELY ICONS(pun intended).
It will also install all the compaq software
back incase you deleted it :) (LIKE ME)
Another thing, are there 2 choices of restores when it comes up ??
The quick restore CD should have come with
the model of compaq you bought. All you do is
put it in when you boot up
(alot like a Windows boot disk but in the CD-Rom and it asks for some answers that's all)When I mean 2 choices of restores is: Mine
came with 2 CD's. There is an option for a one CD restore and a 2 CD restore with my model. You may only have one, but any way find the CD and put it into the CD-ROM when you BOOTUP.
****DO THIS ONLY AS A LAST RESORT*****
You WILL LOSE EVERYTHING ON YOUR HARDDRIVE
Post back any questions and I will try to answer them ok? Hope that helped.

Oh yea, another thing !!!
The bios chip on the board....
If you ever format your HARDDRIVE with the
FDISK program on the WIN BOOT DISK, the BIOS
will tell the computer to look for the quick-
restore CD to put the compaq back the way it was. How nice of compaq to do that :(
As soon as the HD is formated the CD-Rom
looks for that lucky CD. Format feature for
compaq cd...aahhh just forget it. Use FDISK
and reboot with the compaq quickrestore in if
you want it to be clean for sure.***I was lucky once, to find a version of the bios that was not related to compaq for the board I had on the compaq.
Flashed it and no more COMPAQ BOOT UP SCREEN
:)
*****Unfornately the other one I had was a
name board so no luck.
***DO NOT TRY THIS THOUGH****
I was just experimenting.

Hi everyone! My friend's friend has the same problem and as usual, he came to me for help. I did everything any normal tech would do; put the quickrestore CD on the dvd-drive and that piece of crap only repartitioned the HD in 2 sections and stops saying: "error xxx call tech support" and stays there forever!
So I did look at the batchs programs starting with AUTOEXEC.BAT and it jumped to an endless (like 35 or more) series of little crappy files just to check the bios, cdrom unit, hd partitions, available space, ram drive, and on!! just to do nothing!
But I discovered that these compaq f*ckers used "norton ghost" and "power quest drive image" to do this nasty job.
So do yourself a favor and get a bootable CD with these tools and load the images from your "compaq cd s---" and avoid the hassles!
