Subject: Compaq Quick Restore Question
|
Comment: Hello All, Replacing hardrive on presario 5000, 850meg, 128 ram circa 9/7/00 using compaq's quick restore cd's. Current hardrive is unavailable for comment. Research has indicated that an fdisk/format is not required for the new drive using the cd's. I know that compaq creates a SAV partition "D" for it's restore function as an OEM configuration, does the cd set perform this w/o the need for me to fdisk etc? Enable CD support from BIOS/Boot disk and go? Just curious if any thoughts. Oh, by the way the system has, or had ME. Thanks shep

Reply: (edit)Dave, I think I mentioned that the old drive was total toast, the only ghost that I could conjure up would be fictional. It is interesting that there other drive recovery systems that perform the fdisk/format function on a virgin drive via cdrom support, I'm not used to this. I was sort of interested if anyone had done something similar w/compaq. And by the way, I will try. How bad can it be? It's not mine. Thanks shep
