compaq presario 4000 sound problem

my friend bought a compaq presario 4000 pc and it has a weird sound problem. sometimes the sound works perfectly, but sometimes it sounds like roar / big noise coming from the speakers. i updated the driver, but it didn't help. the speakers are ok. i tried them with my own pc. usually booting the pc removes the sound but it comes out by itself.
