Greetings,
Compaq Presario 1200 notebook will only allow a max of 4 MB video memory allotment in the Phoenix BIOS version 4.0 release 6.0 setup utility. In the advanced section in item specific help, it lists options of 2, 4 and 8 MB. However, it only allows two choices of 2 or 4 MB when using the + or - keys. The display is poor with washed out colors and jagged lettering.
I don't know the history of this computer other than I got it recently with a crashed 5125 MB HDD and dead FDD. I replaced them with new identical units, loaded Win ME and all is good other than the display. I have the Compaq Emergency Recovery CD but I haven't figured out how to load it (if it would help). In Control Panel/Display I only have 16 colors and 600x800 pixels with no other options. Is there any hope ?
Thanks,
The Boxcutter

Go to Compaq's site. Now HP. and download the video card drivers for that laptop. Install the drivers. reboot the PC. Problem solved.

Dave02,
Thanks !
Downloaded the Trident Cyberblade Cbi7 Graphics Driver from the HP site, installed it and all is well.

Is there any way I can allot 8 MB video memory instead of the 2 MB or 4 MB that setup is only allowing me? I only have 16 colors and 640x480 pixels with no other options. crappy display
