My Compaq MV740 Monitor's picture is all misformed and die settings can not fix it. The middle is narrow and the top and bottom is to wide. Can I fix it or need I take it to a dealership?

Hennie,it may simply need to be degauzed,check the buttons on the front of the monitor and see if you have the option.another possibility is your video card may be bad or the driver could be corrupt.if none of the above can you get another monitor to try/.If the monitor turns out to be bad its probably cheaper to replace it than take it to a shop for repairs.
