color mode or display problems

i am having serious display problems....i cant get out of 16 color mode....i have went to settings in the display area but all it shows is 16 colors ...256 colors...and hig color 16 bit.....my true color is gone and it will only stay on 16 colors i cant even get it to go to 256....if anyone can help.....please do i was using windows 98 and started having this problem..i upgraded to windows me thinking it would solve the problem but it hasnt.
install the driver for your video card and monitor http://www.windrivers.com/company.htm some are self installing others you will have to ,right click my computer -choose properties-click on device manager-click the + next to display- click driver tab-click update driver and browse to where you downloaded the driver.-- most have a read me txt file with install instructions--.

after clicking the + next to display highlight your video card and click properties.then the driver tab ,and then update driver button. (if needed)

I agree... Sounds to me like no drivers exist at all.... Once you get them you should be okay. Kudos to the Windrivers recommendation. I love that site. Any other good recs?
