Comment: please help! recently downloaded the divx 5.x bundle, ffdshow and bsplayer in order to view d/l movies w/out getting the "error downloading codec" message. well, it worked just fine until i noticed some problems w/other applications: - adaptec no longer recognized any of my music files - kazaa files could no longer be played in the kazaa browser - trying to do so would cause the application to freeze up i'm not sure if these problems are related or not...but i'm guessing that they are i tried to uninstall each of the 3 programs mentioned above (one at a time) but it didn't help at all. AND now that i've re-downloaded the 3 programs, my movies don't even play!!!!! HELP!!!!!!!! thanks in advance

Reply: (edit)Do a system restore. If you do not have a restore point, use a bootdisk, run scanreg and restore your registry from before you installed the problem programs. You can then delete the folders from the programs you installed (as they will not be in the restored registry). Stay away from these programs that caused the problem. The codecs from dixv.com work well. I have never heard anything bad about them. Not sure about the players, though. Once you install the codecs, you should be able to play divx movies with windows media player.

Reply: (edit)I have tried several players. Many caused the exact same problem lilone77 has. Some codecs also cause the problem. I would get codecs from www.divx.com. I would not install any applications from Kazaa (every one of the few I tried to download had viruses and had to be deleted).
