error message: CMOS checksum error can someone decipher this for me/how do I adjust to the correct settings?? 2nd error message: primary master cylinder HDD S.M.A.R.T. -disabled my clock reset itself to 1/01/1997...any significance/ my mouse has been very airy fairy too ....... help please

If clock is resetting itself, your battery on the motherboard is probably dead. That may account for all your other problems. Replace the battery and then go into your bios and reset all the options and see if everything is now ok.

thanks Eric but I am having difficulty changing the month in the CMOS setup/ I highlight it but zilch/ the time year & date all change okay Carmel B.

Well am i any the wiser/ my setings are back to normal & the mouse is behaving again.The HDD S.M.A.R.T 'disabled' setting is a default seting/ it can also be enabled/ dependent on settings etc/ it appears to vary with individual computer fixit guys. Then again maybe I have learned/ I have never really undetstood my original computer book before
