Hi,
I have not had any problems with my clock until the past week. It is 12 hours slow when I turn on my computer. I re-set it and am on line for hours and it doesn't miss a minute. Then, when I turn my computer on the next day, it is 14 hours slow again. It happened about 4 times this week. I have also been noticing that there is a recurring window poping up when l am on the internet, offering software that automatically sets your clock for you. I just had the suspicion that maybe they got into my registry and messed up the clock to sell me the software. Possible???
Anyhow, if you have any suggestions, I am all ears. I am not past going into my registry to make changes if necessary.
Thanks,
Angie

You need a new motherboard battery.
You can get one at Radio Shack or Walmart for a couple of dollars.
It is something you need to take care of as soon as possible as you can lose your ROM(read only memory) that is on the motherboard.

Your battery may very well be bad; however, you might also check for spyware and/or virus. Assuming you have antivirus program, spyware check program can be downloaded from
http://beam.to/spybotsd
freeware is Spybot Search and Destroy.
Update the files after download and install.

Angelina, you may have a bad battery, you may have spyware... In case you don't have either, I use a free program which sets the computer clock with the atomic clock at whatever interval you set. Maybe that is what you need. It is put out by Software By Design and called Staylive 2000. Wish I could recall the address, but maybe Google can find it.

Check your bios for the time if this is correct then the problem is elsewhere if not then its probably the battery but the bios should have prompted that the battery is bad.

Thanks all for the imput. I checked the time with the MSDOS prompt and the time was incorrect also. I guess I'll be visiting the computer guy down the block this week. Also thanks for the info on Spy bot Geezer. I downloaded it. And Ed, in looking for the program you suggested, I bunked into this free software called Ad Aware which removed the last traces of the dreaded Xupiter toolbar that gave me so much trouble last year.
So thanx everyone for the assistance.
Angie

Angelina, I couldn't tell if you found Staylive or not. If you didn't, it is available from:
http://www.gregorybraun.com/
according to Google.

Hi All,
It turns out that it was the battery. I actually changed it myself. Cost me $2.50. Very happy about that!Did find some junk with Spy bot and Ad aware on my system too.
Thanks for the web address Ed, I'll go there after I type this
All the best to you all and thanks,
Angie
