Reply: (edit)New doesnt rule out bad battery. Restore to factory settings? What do you mean by this? Loses an hour after each crash? This sounds strange. Have you double clicked the clock in the systray and attempted to alter the time? I wasnt able to get to a c prompt by tpying in CD at the command prompt in windows me. Defaults to C:\windows and remains here. When attempting to Format a:/s i get an error informaing me the /s isnt supported in windows anylonger and to create a startup disk in add and remove programs. I assume from this you werent able to create a startup disk and this is the reason for the invalid system disk.

Reply: (edit)I have never seen time greyed out in the Control Panel icon ?? Maybe a corrupt TIMEDATE.CPL file Can you get to the Windows CAB files - are they installed on the hard drive ? You could try extracting a new timedate.cpl and replacing it in C:\Windows\System
