I was previously running win95. I formatted drive c for a clean install of WinME. After installation, I checked my device manager for problems. It did not recognize my modem so I tried to install it with the modem disc. It tells me that the required driver file "filexfer.cnt" cannot be found. I went to the website to look for an updated driver, but it says they are not available for win98 or winme. The modem is a 56k digicom 3656x2. Anyone know how to resolve this issue?
Also, my monitor is not giving me any options on color or screen appearance. That is I can only choose 16 bit and resolution size of 480 x 640.
I am using all the same hardware as when I had win95 running and did not have either of these issues.
Should I reinstall all of the drivers that came with my hardware originally or should this version of windows have more up to date drivers? Like is it necessary to use the original hard drive disc, motherboard disc, diamond multimedia disc? Most of them say for win95 - should I be trying to look online for updated drivers for every piece of hardware?
Forgive my ignorance - all the info I found on the web about doing a clean install doesn't answer these questions.
Help will be greatly appreciated!

hello
you should try to fined up dated windoz m.e drivers.some times but not often 98 drivers will work but most likely just give you errors.you vidio drivers need up dateing by the looks of things

Just a suggestion...
Have you tried:
http://www.drivers.com
Drivers for everything from the old 8088's to current PC's are there!!!
It takes time to look sometimes so, be prepared.

If there's no drivers to support your modem, then the only solution may be to buy a new internal one, you can pick these up for as little as £15 (about US$25).
As far as the video drivers go, see response 2 above - all you have to know is what your graphics card / chip type is - and that should be listed in the BIOS.
Mark
