Hi all,

Can someone help me change "read-only" files back to "way" files? I had to re-install Windows ME, so I copied all my "way" files to CDR. When I copied them back to my computer, it says their not supported by Windows Media Player. As long as the CD is in the CD-Rom, it will play. But, when I take the CD out, it won't play them. I use them as soundbytes on the pc and my internet server.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks!!!
Darlena

hello
you need to right click on a file and choose proprties. and than set to read or write or archive what ever you need.
now if you have lots of files all needing this done put them all in the same folder and in folders tools in top left find select all (might be edit allso) than right click on a hilighted file and choose proteries and set the file to what you need they will all be changed.
i went to change 7,000 files like this once. had to do it from safe mode as to was just too many for m.e to handel in regular mode. still took 5 minets to change them all.
so this should help.

It has nothing to do with file extentions or being read only.

Just fyi, they are wave files, not way files.

Now here is the problem. The CDA files you tried to copy from your CD are not the audio files but pointers to the start of the audio file on the CD. This is why it only plays when you put in the CD. it looking at the CD when you click on the file on your hard drive. You need to get a audio ripping program such as CDex to rip the audio files from your CD to your hard drive.

An alternative for the next time you back up your wave files would be to burn them as data files and not audio CD. This way you can just drag them back to your hard drive without having to rip them.

This may be way too late, but by using Total Commander (share ware) you can change the attributes to many files at the same time.
