What might cause UNticked items in MSConfig; StartUp tab; to become ticked (without human intervention). ?

Some programs will re-enable the startup entry (or add a new one) when you use it or if the program is updated. One program I've noticed it happens with a lot is Adobe Reader.

If you want to delete the startup entry rather than disabling it, download & install CCleaner Slim. Click Tools > Startup button, then look thru the list.
