Reply: (edit)The following is a copy of a letter that I send to everyone who writes me for cdrw help and is using easy cd.This assumes the burner is installed correctly and has no conflicts Here are the links to the cd software I use For music cd's(this includes making a cd from a mp3 file, like the ones you get from Napster)I use http://cdburner.com/ and http://www.papayatech.com/ You can download these for FREE and if you like them, you can register them(buy it basiclly)for like $20.Both of these do a better job than Easycd. They allow you to save images and playlists. Also they will burn a MP3 which Easycd WILL NOT DO!This is because a MP3 file has to be converted into a different format first before it can be burned. Both of these will do that and do it "on the fly"meaning convert the whole cd at once w/o you having to do it song by song.If you are burning MP3's im pretty sure even if you forget to tell the software to convert then first,it will do it anyway. But Im not positive.OK if your going to copy data cd's(like a program application or game)then you MUST use Clonecd. You can get your copy here http://www.elaborate-bytes.com/ This is the ONLY software to use if your doing data.Nothing else comes close. It is the same deal-Free to try and like $20 to buy.THIS PROGRAM IS WORTH THE $$ FOR MAKING DATA CD's.Nothing else works worth a dang..If you need this software heres a few tips.1)make a image to the harddrive first.(in the case of clonecd it will be 3 different files,ALL are needed to make a cd).2)Turn off ANYTHING thats running.ie antivirus, internet connection etc etc.Hit the ctl/alt/del keys and shut down everything but "systray"and"explorer".This last part is not crucial but not a bad tip nonetheless. This will ensure everything is shut off.3)you will see a bunch of errors while its making the data image(clone cd again)..This is NORMAL,the image will be fine so dont worry.4)It takes a LONG LONG time to make the data image so be patient(2 or 3 hrs isnt abnormal).5)practice burn to CDRW type disks, although they wont play on a house or car cd player they let you know if the burn process is good or not.If its not ok,just erase it and try again(cant do that on a CDR only a CDRW)Once its perfected burn it to a regular CDR type disk and it will play anywhere.Tip number 1 and 2 holds true for making ANY cd(data or music). If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me back and ill try to help. good luck Granted even tho the new Easycd will do mp3 conversion, it still is a POS(in my humble opinion) jimi_l

Reply: (edit)Please read a reply before responding to a post.Further its an OPINION,not spam, and opinions are what this forum are all about. For your own personal edification I have added a definition of "spam"..... A "spam" e-mail is generally defined as an unsolicited mailing, usually to many people. A message written for, and mailed to, one individual that is known to the sender is not spam, and a reply to an e-mail is not spam, unless the "reply" repeats endlessly. I hope this clears up your obvious confusion on this subject. jimi_l

Reply: (edit)Bob be more specific about your problem...Adaptec comes with two burning software 1- Easy CD creator 2- CD copier Delux (or something like that) did you try both? you cant burn any CD?.. or only you cant burn music CD? are you using CDR or CDRW ... i would recomend using CDR.. you have to format CDRW before use.... or is the burn starting and you get then error message? (buffer overrun)? I would sugest that you call Yamaha tech support also, bierkrug... jimi is not spamming... he provides much good info... it is upon us to sort that info through for our use... Reply: (edit)jimi_1 & Mirosloav, I used both Easy CD Creator & Tried to use Direct CD, but it told me that the drive eas not supported by Adaptec, but that isn't right as Yamaha drives ship with adaptec? Anyway I did as Jimi_1 suggested, I removed adaptec fro the computer and installed CloneCD and it quit as soon as the copying process began, maybe 15 or 20 seconds I was using a CDR. I checked the disk and it has some info on it, so it did write something to it? however it's not complete. Bob

Reply: (edit)somehow middle part of my post got lost :( ... i think i was asking there what speed did you try to burn... the CD burner try usually the highest speed by default... that could cause buffer underrun if the rest of your system is not able to keep up with the CD burner speed... if the burn started and stopped after very short time period it looks like buffer underrun... try first to set burning speed to 1X and see what happens... try also to burn a very small file (thats much smaller than your buffer)... that way you can isolate the problem... did you get any log from your CD burner... that might list the error that happened... also let us know how did you install the CD burner... it might not like to be as slave with the CD ROM or other piece of hardware as master... try to switch it around... Regards Miro

Reply: (edit)Jimi & Miroslav, Sorry for taking so long to get back to you, I installed the yamaha CDRW into another computer that I have here. The same situation? Adaptec DirectCd starts up in the tray with an error which says "Adaptec CD Wizard, No supported CD drive" I may have mentioned that Yamaha drives ship with Adaptec (Roxio) Easy CD Creator and DirectCD, so the drive IS supported? I'm calling Yamaha in the morning to see if they can help. Thank you guys for your time and I'll post back if I find the solution. Thanks again........ Bob

Reply: (edit)Hi Bob ... just my two cents worth. We have that same burner at work and at home I have the Yamaha CRW8424E. Had the same problem as you and at work we finally switched to Nero and got it working. At home I stuck to the Adaptec software and finally have it running like a top. One thing to make sure when you are trying to do a burn ... shut everything down that you may have running in the background ... even screensaver. Also don't do anything else ... just the burner. HTH
