Comment: Hello, So sorry not sure where to put this question, but you all always give me great advice here in the ME forum. I have a cd-rw. what media is best? and what the heck is the difference between cd-r's and cd-rw's? also, why are there different speeds on the media itself? this is one of the only area's where I am sooo confused and can't get an answer from retailers (of course) Thank you so much for helping me on this:) take care all and thanks again Tony or aka confused in CA.

Reply: (edit)the RW part is re-writer. which means you can use it like a floopy. you can erase and add things as you wish. dont use these for music though. the cd-r is a one time deal. what you put on there, stays there. use these for music. Mike

Reply: (edit)hello the cd-rw does like mike says it records and reads.cd,s but it can only rerecord on cdwr,cd,s and it can burn only once on regular cd-r,s but read many times the write speed and read speeds are list like this.for cd-rw 40x 10x 50x the first is cd-r write speed the seconed would be cd-rw rewrite speed the third is the speed it reads cd,s at have a nice day

Reply: (edit)Verbatim,Sony or TDK are good brands.Buying faster media than your cd-r/w drive can burn is a waste of money. Happy hunting....

Reply: (edit)You can use cdr's with a lesser speed rating and still record at higher speeds it just means that theyre not guaranteed to all work 100%. :)
