Okay, I have a CD rom that will not get recongnised in WinME but it will show up during bootup and in dos using a bootdisk.

In the device manager, I can see a yellow (!) in the Primary IDE Controller and No CDrom is listed.

I have tried downloading new drivers with no luck and I am now clueless.

Yeah, I tried that, I also tried reading the chipset info on the motherboard and manually finding drivers on the net without success.

Are their Generic Drivers that will work. Maybe I am trying too hard.

Bud Wise,

What model no. is the motherboard, if you know?

What are the chips name & number?

What does it list, for the _____Bus Master IDE Controller, by the primary & secondary controllers?

Also, in Device Manager, at " +System devices", are there things listed, like VIA___, Ali___, AMD___, ect.

Have you tried, to boot into safe mode, and delete the controllers there? Just curious.

How many IDE devices do you have & how are they setup (master/slave configuration)?

Motherboard is VA-503+

Chipsets that I see have this on it
VT82C598MVP and
VT82CS86B

I have two drives on the primary (HD master and CDrom as a secondary, CDrom doesn't work using the secondary and like I said, they show up in both bios/bootup and in dos.

System Resources are fine, some Via but mostly generic windows.

Yes, I tried both deleting the drivers and uninstalling them, even searching for better ones and they just come back with the ones that don't work.

Bud Wise,

First thing,

"Yes, I tried both deleting the drivers and uninstalling them, even searching for better ones and they just come back with the ones that don't work."

So, does that means, you booted into safe mode, and deleted/removed the controllers in Device Manager?

Your MB uses a VIA chipset. Apollo MVP3, to be precise. That info, was obtained here. To get/download drivers, go here

VA-503+ FAQ

You said, you tried installing drivers. May I ask what they were, and where you got them. Thanks

Good Luck
